Hi, I’m Sara

I am a friendly Midwestern American living in London. My fun icebreaker fact is always that I am one of 7 siblings, and I have 16 nieces and nephews. I love my big family. They all live virtually next-door to  each other in Wisconsin, and although we’ve grown up traveling all over the world, I decided it was more fun to stay a bit longer and call these places home (away from home, mom!). I’ve lived in Madrid, Spain; Buenos Aires, Argentina; and Medellin, Colombia,  before settling in London with my boyfriend. I find it more gratifying to fully embed myself than just visit. When I do travel, I love to find local guides and do home-stays.

When I’m not traveling, you can find me at a Strength & Conditioning class, playing with my cat Carlo, out at a comedy gig or play, or delving into a dark novel.

I’m also an avid film & series watcher; more colloquially, a couch potato. But think low-budget indie, mumble-core productions. No song and dance, maybe not even driven by plot. Less Succession, More Hebrew soap opera about a Haredi family living in an ultra-Orthodex neighborhood of Jerusaelm. I love learning about people, behavior and different customs of everyday lives.

Above all, I believe that beauty is found in simple, uncontrived moments.

My photography style is perhaps informed by this interest in observing human behavior and norms. Where another photographer might put down the camera after getting a shot on their checklist, I wait. Because the best photos can’t be orchestrated. They happen when people let down their guard and relax into a moment. I direct where needed but don’t interrupt or intervene in the natural set of events to contrive a moment.

I’ve also drawn artistically from the various careers I’ve explored: journalism, documentary filmmaking, magazine design, graphic design and management consultancy (ok the last one less so).

Get in touch if you’d like to shoot with me!
